Deep internal history of bamboo lies in Japan: it starts with myths and legends, where bamboo's strength is a metaphor for a man. Bamboo is usually involved in many local festivities. We are used to the bamboo made cups, buildings, fences etc, but it's a rare sight to actually see a wild forest of bamboo - especially when they are thick and a sky high tall.
The Arashiyama Bamboo Grove is one of Kyoto’s top sights and for a good reason: standing amid these soaring stalks of bamboo is like being in another world. The light gets an incredible expression, but no picture can capture the feeling of standing in the midst of this sprawling bamboo grove.
