Gastein Valley is an Austrian spa and ski region in the High Tauern mountains south of Salzburg with the three main towns - Bad Gastein, Bad Hofgastein and Dorfgastein. The Valley is located 1,002 metres above sea level, thus thick layers of snow are guaranteed for skiing season, - from mid December until late spring.
The main ski resorts - Angertal, Sportgastein, Stubnerkogel, Schlossalm and Graukogel - can be reached from the towns of Bad Gastein and Bad Hofgastein, they are connected with ski pistes and lifts.
The pistes in Gastein Valley aren't only for skiers - here you can find slopes for snowboarding and sledging. The town of Bad Gastein is located in the central part of "Hohe Tauern" national park - thus is famous for the biggest spa centres with thermal spring waters. Outdoors here are great: over 170km of outstandingly groomed slopes combined and 53 modern ski lifts awaits you. Pistes information: skiing zone altitude 1038-2700 m; number of pistes: 53; longest piste: Angertalabfahrt (11 km), the most difficult slope: Tiefschneeabfahrt (2,2 km); pistes for beginners - 22%, for intermediates - 64%, for professionals - 14%; sledging slopes - 3%. You can also enjoy a night skiing - some of the pistes are lit during the late evenings. Treat yourself with great spa pleasures after a long day: there are 7 thermal and 25 indoor pools, health spa center etc.
